Visibility for women in football, powered by
young girls!

The Project

Lewes FC is one of the pioneering football teams in the world, one of the first to pay their female footballers the same as their male counterparts and a football club owned by the community - they are paving the way for equality in the game.

The young players from the pathway team came together to design the iconic Match Day posters for the Lewes FC Women's Team. They wanted to celebrate these role models and show other young girls that pursuing football is possible - by changing the face of the game.

Lessons in virtual photoshoots

Part of creating the posters for Lewes FC Women was that it had to feature one of the women’s 1st team players. Without being able to do a photoshoot in person, the girls had to get creative.

Over a single afternoon, the girls took part in a virtual photography skill session with Ellie Jade learning how to create compositions, communicate with your subject, and how to work with the lighting available.

The Programme

Over the academic summer holidays, we teamed up with the pathways team at Lewes FC to work with their Under 16 & Under 14 players to work on this seasons Match day Posters.

Over the course of 6 weeks, we worked together on bringing more visibility of women and young girls in football! The girls interviewed, photographed and created Match day Posters featuring Lewes FC Womens team and they did all of this virtually and with so much courage, conviction and confidence!

Creating a Sister Space Every programme at Sisterhood starts with creating a safe, supporting & creative space. The girls themselves decide the intentions they want to work on this programme for how they want to work with each other, the energy they bring in to each session and the commitment to working on themselves.

In their own words..

The young players got to spend some quality time with 2 league players and got to know more about their journey to football, what inspires them and words of encouragement for the future generations.

The young girls researched each player beforehand, wrote down questions that would go deeper than the surface and got to practice interview and journalism skills - and the proof is in the words :)
