Sisterhood School Programmes

We create programmes that give girls the ability to be in charge of her learning and her livelihood.

The need for a variety of programmes.

From our girls, we understand that we need to meet them where they are and access to opportunities and being able to participate are not the same for all girls. We offer 4 distinct programmes that allow girls to access and get involved at the level that works for them.

Every programme is aimed to support girls to develop their:

  • CONFIDENCE to be themselves (navigating and understanding complex issues that impact them in connection to the world).

  • COURAGE to act (hands on, practical tools to create viable, real world solutions).

  • CHARISMA to inspire (the skills to bring others along in their mission to create change).

For our 15 week & 1 year programmes, we specifically partner with schools and youth clubs to embed it within the curriculum as we know taking part in extra-curricular projects is a barrier in itself for many girls.

  • Over the course of 15 weeks (1 x week for 3 hours), each cohort works on designing and launching a specific Social Action Project that addresses an issue that impacts their own lives and their communities.

We bring on creative and industry experts to support the cohort to better understand these issues and develop an industry-standard project.

  • Similar to the 15-week programme, except this takes place over the course of the whole academic year.

Each cohort designs and launches their own Social Action Project. With a one year programme we are able to integrate deeper personal and professional development, bring on mentors & experts and build stronger connections as a group.

  • Sisterhood Summer is a 1 - 2 week intensive work experience programme for 16-18year olds, held during the academic summer holidays.

Participants can apply to be part of the programme and will be set a specific brief and work with a network of industry professionals and an organisations employees to create an outcome that has a positive social change towards gender specific issues.

If you have a project in mind or would like to create a brief that will support your organisations work, please get in touch via hello@oursisterhood.co.uk

  • We offer 1 - 4 Day Events that give young people an insight into different industries, issues or skill development. Young people collaborate with industry experts to create a prototype project.

If your brand/organisation/school would like to provide insight into a particular career, skill or opportunity, please do get in touch to discuss your project at hello@oursisterhood.co.uk

The need for girl-led programmes

It is essential that our programmes respond to the context of the world girls live in today - what they value, their aspirations, challenges and design services that speak to them. Most services created for girls are made for them, not with them; therefore they often do not see it as something for them.

There are several aspects of a girls life that our programmes touch upon, the overarching areas being:

Girls education - equipping girls with relevant and future-based education

Building confidence - making sure girls have the opportunity to develop their confidence in order to seize future opportunities.

Creativity - a skill not only for the creative industry but a method of learning that equips young people for the future of work and life.

  • Our current education system do not work for the many and girls are disproportionately affected by this.

54% of teenagers aged 14+ want more work experience that asks them to solve a ‘real world’ problem or challenge posed by a business.

(UK Commission for Employment & Skills)

  • Despite the progress, there’s still a confidence gap for young girls. In fact, they start losing confidence in themselves as young as the age of 6.

67% of girls aged 11-21 spoke negatively about their futures. (Girl Guiding Report)

  • Design touches every aspect of our lives and has served as visual commentary to the social, political and economical climate. Functioning design at its core is a problem solving tool that has the capacity to serve communities and people to improve daily systems and structures.

Therefore we need to equip young people for careers in the 21st century and beyond and design is crucial to the personal and professional development of young minds - it has real world application, encourages practical participation, critical thinking and innovation.

Book a Taster Session

If you’re interested in what we do, but want to experience a glimpse of the impact of our programmes before bringing us into the curriculum, we offer taster sessions (typically 1-2 hours) where your students get a dose of inspiration into creating their own projects, opening up their minds to the change they want to make and learning some skills along the way.

We’ve incorporated our Taster Sessions into school & class assemblies, PSHE lessons, career days and wherever else you see us fit best.

Please do get in touch and we look forward to hearing from you.
