Designing an identity with
Barnet’s culture and young
people in mind.
We were approached by Arts Depot, a cultural destination in Barnet to co-design a brand identity to establish the a consortium of creative and cultural organisations that were coming together to establish a new Barnet Cultural Education Partnership.
A part of this project includes the involvement of the partnerships youth panel; to ensure that young people’s interests were considered and included form the start. Therefore when we were approached to design identity; it was natural to have young people who are part of the panel contribute towards the design and new look for the partnership. One that they would recognise, be distinct from other opportunities in Barnet and have their stamp on what it looks like.

A big part of co-creation is often understanding the motivations the young people or users of a product or service have. This enable us to develop a brand that reflect that, in the case of the Barnet Cultural Education Partnership youth panel, it was the desire for these young people to showcase and focus on the art based activities the borough has to offer.
We ran a virtual co-design session taking the youth panel through the design process to ideate logos rooted in purpose that reflect the aspirations for this partnership.
Visual Identity
Barnet & Culture for Youth is the new brand name under which this partnership will grow. Keeping in mind the young people’s emphasis on art and youth; the logo incorporates and emphasises both of these through use of typography and culture. The ‘Art’ & You is highlighted to drive the message of Barnet being a borough that truly cares about the cultural and creative experience & opportunities of young people who live and study there.

As part of the final outcome, the youth panel sent custom lettering to create a more custom variation of the logo.
